Enjoy the best of two Amish Communities featuring delicious cuisine, local artisans, quilt gardens, beautiful countryside touring and fun entertainment. This trip will take you from Ohio to Indiana and back. Many know how the Lancaster Amish live, visit other communities and compare and contrast during this once in a lifetime experience.
Day One
Depart for Ohio with a lunch stop on own in route. Upon arrival check in to the Berlin Grande Hotel in Berlin, Ohio. Freshen up, then enjoy the patio overlooking the farmlands, indoor pool and hot tub, or the quilt garden next door at the Farmstead Restaurant. Depart for David Warther Museum and enjoy a private guided tour by the Carver himself as he delights you with his gorgeous Ivory Sailing Ship carvings! David, the grandson of the Master Carver, Mooney Warther, wil share stories of growing up with his grandfather and how it inspired him. Him and his wife will treat the group to a wonderful meal surrounded by amzaing works of art. After dinner, you will meet your guide for the remainder of the trip, and enjoy some time to browse the museum and shop.
DDay Two
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before departing to Coblentz Leather, an Amish family business featuring the finest hand tooled leather goods. Step outside at Cobletz and enjoy feeding the goats! Depart to Lamp and Light Candle for a fun candle carving demo by the Amish Ladies before departing to Indiana. In route enjoy lunch on own in Middlebury. In the late afternoon, check into Essenhaus Inn where you have some time to get settled and freshen up before enjoying an included buffet feast at Das Dutchman Essenhaus next door, which is the largest restaurant in Indiana. Enjoy the gorgeous Country Inn, indoor pool, patio area, walking path, covered bridge and quilt garden.
B, DDay Three
Awake to an included breakfast at the Inn before departing for a guided tour of the Indiana Amish Community. Visit Dutch Country Market for shopping time, before making a visit to see their quilt garden! Northern Indiana's Amish Community is known for their signature quilt gardens! The shop features bulk items, honey from their own bees, noodles, soaps, arts, crafts, and more. Before departing each guest will receive a small bag of noodles made by the family. Next we'll visit Teaberry Wood Products for the most unique hand-made wood items and baskets followed by a stop at the Mennonhof Museum in Shipshewana where we'll learn about the amazing history of the area's Amish and Mennonites! The Musuem hosts a short film, and wonderful dioramas showcasing the life and history of the local people. Mid day you may tour downtown Shipshewana for lunch on own and shopping time - even visit the Famous Flea Market to search for a treasure or keepsake. In the afternoon we'll depart for Kriders Quilt Garden in route back to the hotel. Have some time to freshen up before heading to the Jones Family for a delicious family style feast and program from the family. Enjoy seeing their horses and beautiful quilts beffore heading back to the Inn.
B, DDay Four
Enjoy a full breakfast buffet included at the hotel before departing back to Holmes County, Ohio. We'll stop for lunch on own in Norwalk area with plenty of choices before heading to Millersburg to dip buckeyes at Troyer Sweet Shop. Stop to visit Yoders Amish Home and Farm for a house tour, buggy ride through the meadow, and a visit a one room school house. Check back into the Berlin Grande Hotel before enjoying a buffet supper next door at the Farmstead Restaurant. After dinner depart for the Amish Country Theater for a two hour musical featuring live music, hilarious comedy skits, ventriloquist Ken Groves - its like Hee Haw Live on Stage!
B, DDay Five
Enjoy breakfast at the Inn before packing up and departing. Finish your your Amish Adventure by making two final stops; Hershberger Farm Market and Amish Bakery and Heini's
Cheese Chalet. Here you can shop for Amish culinary delights to not only take home to treasure or even gift, but also to snack on while making the trek back to Pennsylvania.
