Today, many still remark that this gorgeous garden of woods and waters, which is the 1000 Islands, is truly one of the most beautiful places on the planet.
Day One
Welcome to the Thousand Islands! Here Ontario and the United States meet...their cultures blending in the waters of the mighty St. Lawrence and Great Lake Ontario. This afternoon, enjoy a tasting at the Thousand Islands Winery. Experience the charming atmosphere of the Winery, housed in the original 1923 Sears & Roebuck barn, while the friendly and knowledgeable staff reveals information on their award-winning wines and the history of the property and will keep you amused with accounts from yesteryear right up to today. Check into the Harbor Hotel for a relaxing three-night stay. Enjoy a get-acquainted dinner this evening.
DDay Two
After breakfast, board an Uncle Sam Boat for a scenic 2 hour & 15 minute tour through the Thousand Islands! Take a 22-mile journey through the international waters of America and Canada, with the best view of this truly unique geographical area shared by two nations, and you don't even need a passport! Enjoy historic and scenic wonders in both the American and Canadian sections of the 1000 Islands, hear the colorful history of the magnificent homes built during the Gilded Age as well as biographical information about their owners, view such landmarks as Devils Oven, Sunken Rock Lighthouse, the Canadian Span of the 1000 Islands Bridge System, and Tom Thumb Island, detail historical events that took place during the War of 1812 and so much more! Enjoy a boxed lunch on the cruise. Then, arrive at Heart Island for a self-guided tour of Boldt Castle. George Boldt built the castle as the ultimate gift of love for his darling wife, Louise. When construction of Boldt Castle was well underway, tragedy struck. In January 1904, George send his workers a telegram saying, "Stop all work, Louise has died." Heartbroken, he never returned to Heart Island again. Enjoy a short ferry ride back to the mainland and return to your resort to enjoy the remainder of the day and evening at your leisure, exploring the town and dining at one of the great waterfront restaurants!
B, LDay Three
After breakfast, board the Night Heron, a unique glass-bottomed boat, for a fun-filled 2 hour & 45 minute cruise meandering among the islands, viewing spectacular scenery, learning how the Thousand Islands were created, hearing about the "Pirate who became Lighthouse Keeper and the fugitive from justice credited with saving the river from winter navigation, peer through the glass at an underwater shipwreck! Explore Rock Island State Park and view the historic 1847 lighthoouse for an unparalleled view of the St. Lawrence River. Visit the "Keepers Cottage," now a museum and gift shop. After the cruise, enjoy lunch on your own before visiting the Antique Boat Museum, North America's premier freshwater nautical museum, and home to the longest-running antique boat show. Tonight, enjoy another delicious dinner together.
B, DDay Four
Enjoy breakfast this morning before we set off for historic Sackets Harbor on the shores of Lake Ontario. Sackets Harbor played an integral role in the War of 1812. This protected port provided the US Navy with a safe harbor to work from and a protected shipbuilding port to supply them. Arrive at Sackets Harbor Battlefield, where we'll meet our costumed interpreter for a guided battlefield tour, 1850's Navy Yard and Commandants House. Enjoy lunch on your own in Sackets Harbor before we depart for home with wonderful memoies to cherish.
